My Approach To Therapy

Art History tells the story that the great sculptor, Michelangelo (March 6, 1475 –February 18,1564), studied a magnificent piece of marble for four months before he began to chisel. Then he went to work and carved out the statue of David. The master piece came to life and still stands to this day. This piece of art history illustrates my approach to what therapy evokes in us.

Therapy can help bring forth wonderful resources that live within us, so we can live with a sense of strength, dignity, integrity, and hope for a better future. The therapeutic relationship between me and my clients reaches my inner soul and elicits from me the desire to engage in conversation that can be productive and filled with compassion. In this experience we can unearth inner strengths bringing forth resources that make for new options that bridge a brighter future for my clients.

I see my clients as people of stature who are brave. They have a desire to make changes and overcome obstacles that may be preventing them from not only living and surviving but thriving.

Therapy can deepen our self-awareness, germinating our self-confidence, inspiring us with more energy to lift the monkey off our back. It can give us a more positive outlook rooting us in a direction that opens space for a realistic, satisfying, fresh expectation for ourselves. Counseling can energize a person to deal with such issues as couple and family stress, or anxiety, depression, life’s many transitions, parenting challenges, drug and/or alcohol abuse, trauma, work demands, grief and many other waves that create psychological pain.

In therapy we can learn to use our resiliencies to stand up to adversity and defeat giant monsters, like Goliath. Give me a call and lets work together to see what good things can happen for you!

The poet Rumi said “As in oyster-shells raindrops are pearls. Outside the shell they are raindrops, great and small; inside they are precious pearls, big and little….such is the power of the soul.”
