What Lies Within

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” US Women’s Soccer Star, Alex Morgan

When people come to therapy, I work to help clients hear something that can be useful and something that they have not heard before: not from a friend, not from a neighbor, not from a relative, not from a colleague, not from anyone else. Our conversations are unique because each client is an original! Our relationship becomes creative. From our conversations, there springs forth a new energy that can be named and claimed.

In therapy whether it is with couples, with families, or with individuals, we work to bring forth something new that can give each of us a sense of joy that is uplifting for all those in the therapy room. We are in a special zone, a special place where honesty and truth can be spoken and discovered as reality. It is a beautiful work of art, bringing forth new life for the clients and for me the therapist.

How does this come about? The client and I are listening to what the client wants and is willing to work to obtain. Through these therapy conversations, both therapist and client can bring forth an awareness of one’s strengths, in order to deal with life’s difficulties. You can have a deeper sense of compassion for oneself and others, as you deal with life’s challenging situations that can be perplexing.

Therapy can help us to make changes by going to what lies within: to our unique resources. Clients who want to make a change in their life can achieve that change. They can do it at their own pace. We measure that change that is occurring within, making note of it, and nurturing that which keeps the change going.

The therapy experience can give us a sense of renewed confidence and positive expectations for ourselves in terms of couple and family relationships, our friendships, our role as parents, authoring and nurturing children, and caring for others. Therapy can energize us and help us invest in our future and in others.

This new experience brings a new sense of well-being; a new springtime where we feel better. We can stand on solid ground enabling us to move forward trusting in our resources to give us the power to appreciate what we can do. Therapy can help a person feel more connected to themselves, to one another, and the world around us.
